(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The organization is hoping to raise money to provide homeless Muslim women and children nationwide with food and housing as well as educational opportunities and medical services.
“Muslimat al-Nisaa is the only shelter, that's exclusively designed, that's fate based and is culturally sensitive of Muslim women and children,” Asma Hanif from the Muslimat al-Nissa told Press TV.
Hanif says it's important for Muslim women who are in trouble or transition to have a safe haven that is faith-based.
Muslimat al-Nisaa chose the University of Maryland for the fundraising event because of its location and because the Student Muslim Association here is supportive and assists in coordinating events.
Vendors sold various artwork and other items at the event which will be donated to Muslimat al -Nisaa. The group also held a panel discussion on the problem of domestic violence.
Attorney Muhammad Bashir discussed his book, Raw Law, an urban guide to criminal justice at the conference.
Bashir has devoted a chapter of his book to the erosion of civil rights in post 9/11 America and says Muslims have to be particularly careful to avoid the criminal justice system at this time due to politics in America.
